For funeral transport with increased capacity

Based on the diesel versions of the Mercedes Vito and V-Class, or the fully electric eVito and EQV, Huiskamp Carrosseriefabriek has developed a 4-coffin configuration for organisations requiring increased transport capacity within a compact vehicle platform. The layout provides space for four coffins or stretchers, or a combination of both, with emphasis on ergonomics, clarity and safe working conditions. The finish is restrained and technically refined, suitable for every stage within the funeral transport chain.

Functional in daily use, designed for capacity

Optimised use of space

The load compartment is arranged clearly and practically, with attention to efficient operation in every situation. Both floor levels can be equipped with coffin rollers and glide strips or a slide system, aligned with the working methods of the country in which the vehicle is deployed. At the front beneath the floor, spacious drawers and compartments can be integrated, while at the rear a deep drawer can be combined with a full-length floor compartment for a room divider or comparable elongated objects.

Depending on the selected wheelbase, a double partition wall can be installed, creating additional storage space for larger equipment such as a coffin cooler. A fully extendable pharmacy-style cabinet can also be specified. All storage solutions are custom-designed around the equipment you carry daily, ensuring that the available space is used logically and efficiently.

Functionally designed coffin compartment

The coffin compartment is finished as standard in durable, low-maintenance materials such as HPL panels and stainless steel trims, suited to intensive daily use. The second electrically liftable coffin floor can be adjusted to multiple positions, allowing flexible use for four coffins or a combination of coffins and stretchers. Optional widened rear sills can be applied to increase the rear opening, facilitating the loading and unloading of wider coffins. The ceiling lighting, complemented by refined horizontal lighting along the side panels, provides functional illumination and is fully integrated into the interior design.

Technically advanced floor solutions

The double coffin floor is powered by an electric spindle system developed by Huiskamp Carrosseriefabriek, operating quietly, powerfully and with minimal maintenance requirements. Compared to conventional hydraulic lifts or cable and pulley systems, this solution is lighter, more compact and highly reliable in daily use. By narrowing the wheel arches, an effective floor width of approximately 135 centimetres is achieved, allowing wider coffins and stretchers to be transported comfortably. The upper floor moves fully up and down and aligns precisely with the lower floor, creating a low lifting threshold and ensuring ergonomic working conditions. The lifting construction is designed for a maximum load of approximately 250 kilograms and remains fully concealed within the integrated structure.

Both floor levels can be fitted with coffin rollers and glide strips for flat-based coffins, or with a slide system for coffins with feet or consoles. The lower floor can optionally be specified as a manually or electrically extendable system with an extension of approximately 70 centimetres. This extendable floor can be executed as a single unit or as two separate floor tracks, allowing loading of a coffin or stretcher from either side, providing significant ergonomic advantages. For specific bespoke applications, the extension can be increased to approximately 140 centimetres.

As a Huiskamp-specific option, the rear sills can be widened to enlarge the opening. This provides additional space during loading and unloading and facilitates manoeuvring with wider coffins. The added width also allows the extendable floor to be specified in a more spacious configuration, further enhancing ease of use.

The vehicle as the driver’s workplace

The driver benefits from a calm and well-organised workplace based on the high finishing standards of the Mercedes Vito, eVito, V-Class and EQV. The 4-coffin configuration has been developed with attention to ergonomics in every action around the vehicle. The layout of the load compartment, the positioning of drawers and compartments, and the operation of the liftable second coffin floor are arranged to ensure smooth and controlled loading and positioning. The low lifting threshold, generous rear access and logically placed storage areas contribute to a workspace in which you can operate safely and efficiently. For dignified closing, the tailgate can be equipped with an additional handle and a soft-close mechanism, eliminating the need to close it with force.

Within the driver’s compartment, the original Mercedes ergonomics are fully retained. Optionally, a centre console with pen holder and spacious storage compartment, developed by Huiskamp Carrosseriefabriek, can be installed between the front seats. This addition provides practical storage for documents or tools that need to be readily accessible. As a result, the vehicle remains comfortable, functional and minimally fatiguing, even during longer journeys.

Vito and eVito, V-Class and EQV

The Mercedes volume models provide a strong foundation for a funeral transport vehicle that must be both practical and dignified. These models offer a recognisable and restrained appearance as standard, combined with the build quality essential within the funeral profession. The high equipment level, refined driving characteristics and compact turning circle make them suitable for a wide range of situations, from longer distances to manoeuvring in city centres and cemeteries. The electric variants further enhance this character with emission-free and silent driving. Huiskamp Carrosseriefabriek further develops these models into a funeral transport vehicle that is technically reliable, comfortable in daily use and aligned with the atmosphere required during a farewell.

Practical layout and professional finishing

Custom storage solutions

The available storage space is tailored to the equipment you use daily in funeral transport. Within the floor and behind the partition wall, spacious drawers, compartments and storage units can be integrated, executed in durable materials suited to intensive use. A double partition wall and the optional pharmacy-style cabinet are available on long wheelbase versions where sufficient space is present. The layout remains clear and organised, ensuring that tools and equipment have a fixed and logical position without compromising movement space around the coffin floors.

Pharmacy-style cabinet

On long wheelbase vehicles, a large pull-out pharmacy-style cabinet can be installed between the double partition wall, designed for high load capacity. It can also be specified as a double-sided version that extends smoothly to both sides. The compartments are custom-designed and finished in durable materials that integrate seamlessly with the interior and are easy to clean.

Exterior aligned with your organisation

The exterior of the Vito, eVito, V-Class and EQV can be personalised by Huiskamp with accents such as two-tone paintwork, chrome sills, privacy glass with illuminated curtains, a stainless steel targa trim with pillar-mounted funeral lighting, or a landaulette-style execution with a full vinyl roof and traditional landau bars. All options are carefully integrated to preserve the restrained and recognisable character of the vehicle.

We are pleased to think along with you

The 4-coffin configuration is developed entirely around your working method. In a personal consultation, we assess the equipment you use, the appearance you wish to convey and the situations in which the vehicle will be deployed. Based on this, we design an interior and exterior that function logically, feel intuitive and align seamlessly with your services and identity.
